In Which The Lameness …
… Of the Mass GOP — and the RNC, for that matter – is further demonstrated. There will be no national fight over the “Kennedy seat.”
Boston Herald: Bush I TransSec/Bush II chief of staff Andy Card bows out, effectively ceding the vacant U.S. Senate to the Dems, declining the effort of fundraising and running, and the indignity of a relentless Bush-bashing. Hard to blame him, I guess …
But it would have been good to see a race, and an unapologetic stand for everything Bush believed in and accomplished, particularly in these dismal days in which the follow-on team is being shown for the pack of shallow, ineffective, hypocritical debutantes that it is. And who knows, he might have won. Imagine if the Kennedy seat went to a Republican. It is not impossible in a state that elected Republican governors for 16 out of the last 20 years. The current Democratic governor and the state Legislature even primed the pump, jacking up state taxes, even as the Democratic president and Congress have been jacking up the deficit. Could have been an electorate ready to make a statement, if given the right opporutnity. Someone ready to fight.
Even a good showing would have been worth it. And in a state that routinely gives Republicans one-third or better in statewide and national fights, they would have got one.
State Sen. Scott Brown, R-Wrentham, one of the few bright lights in state government, gets to keep carrying the banner and who knows, may yet win. That’s up to him. Entirely up to him. Because he’s basically on his own. This race, if it is to be about anything for the Massachusetts GOP, has to be about rebuilding it. To which end Brown’s job is to take one for the team.
Howie Carr thinks it was a joke from the start. Hard to argue otherwise. He’d like to see the RNC pump some resources at Brown. In this scenario Brown, maybe later, wins something statewide. I dunno, that sounds more like a Mass GOP problem than an RNC problem.

If Senator Scott Brown, R-Wrentham MA is that good, then it would help to get notice as soon as possible from people who are willing to help push national money towards state candidates. Hugh Hewitt immediately springs to mind. There, I just linked the names together. Google, do your thing.

[...] Are We Lumberjacks gives us a small piece of the cost of the terror attacks of 2001., as does Ruby Slippers, and Sarah, and Stormbringer. Carol at No Sheeples remember as well, while The Astute Bloggers wonder why some people just never learn from history. Even if, as Babalu points out, they can give a great speech, even if, as Hot Air notes they cannot do math!. Some folks, however do remember. And, as Bob Belvedere does, they honor the gallant. Saber Point does well defending Southern heritage, and Old Virginia honors General Lee Jammie Wearing Fool wonders if Keith Olberrman will be consistent and accept responsibility? Jules wonders when the RNC will stop being LAME! [...]

I wanted Andy Card to run. I agree with you that he stood a good chance. Scott Brown is a great guy, but it’s a tactic. He is using this like a spring board to a state wide office just as Howie surmises.
What about Mike Sullivan?
