In Which Obama Takes My Advice …

Again, half-assedly. Obama says its fear of big government, not racism, that fuels the opposition. Thanks, Mr. President. He gets points for clarity of thought and something like honesty that bucks his party’s prevalent views. Points off for the gutlessness. They had to drag the half-hearted dismissal of the race card out of him in interviews, and I’m not seeing anywhere that he condemned the now rampant race-baiting. via The Swamp

“Are there people out there who don’t like me because of race? - I’m sure there are,” Obama told CNN’s John King. “That’s not the overriding issue here.”

Instead, Obama maintained, it is concern about sweeping government change that has fueled much of the “passion.”

“It’s an argument that’s gone on for the history of this republic,” Obama told NBC News’ David Gregory. “Wbat’s the role of government?… This is not a new argument, and it always invokes passions.”

Sorry, but to allow race-baiting to stand unchallenged with no more than a few off-hand remarks is unconscionable. File under: Post-Racial Gutlessness. … No, just make that Racial Gutlessness. This society is a long way from post-racial when a former president and others in positions of influence can smear vast swaths of the American electorate and disparage American political discourse in vile and defamatory terms with no evidence whatsoever, and the post-racial president treats that as a parlor issue he has minor philosophical differences with.

It’s past time to repudiate the race card.
