Post-Racial Yuks

I appreciate the homespun humor. CBS, “Obama tells Letterman: I Was Black Before The Election.” Maybe it’s even enough to put a lid on the rampant race-baiting and opposition-smearing that started with a gutter comedian, worked its way through the press gallery and the back benches of Congress, and reached as high as a former president of the United States. I doubt it, though. The test will be what happens next time there is some kind of presidential racial flap. My guess, based on the track record … if it threatens his interests rather than serving them, he’ll take the matter a lot more seriously. With a big historic speech or maybe even a beer.
