Now For Something Completely Different
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Neanderthals were horndogs. Theoretically. If you’re down with the 2D:4D digit ratio anthropometic. via John Hawks, who notes it could just as well mean Neanderthals were gay. Which, now that I think of it, could explain the sudden disappearance, given the dearth of paleolithic reproductive options. OK, we return to our original programming:
Let’s see. There’s the shameless abasement of America and besmirching of the ideals and all that has made America a great leader, peacemaker and inspiration in the world.
There’s the perversion of good will and the spirit of political enfranchisement.
But compelling as the need to combat President Barack Obama’s abandonment of the national interest and as inspiring as ACORN’s exposure may be … thank you, Andrew Breitbart … there’s only so much I can stomach of all of it. Sometimes, it’s better to step away for a moment, and that’s when I usually turn to John Hawks’ superlative anthroblog:
UPDATE: big human evolution news expected today, embargoed for later. Stay tuned. You want to stay current when it comes to evolution. Ha ha ha ha ha …anthro-nerd joke. I crack myself up. Back to Hawks …
Dead salmon reads human thoughts. It’s about what an expired fish has to tell us about MRI false positives.
Hey, there’s politics in science, too. Who knew? End charismatic species syndrome! Oblivion for boutique breeds! Enough with the marquee wildlife, already. Noted naturalist says propping up giant pandas bleeds resources from species that have a chance. via MSNBC:
LONDON - Conservationists should “pull the plug” on giant pandas and let them die out, according to BBC presenter and naturalist Chris Packham.
“Here’s a species that, of its own accord, has gone down an evolutionary cul-de-sac,” Packham told Radio Times Magazine.
A wondrous display of astronaut pee.
Our nature/nurture commonality with dogs … hey Fido, don’t pee on that evolutionary tree!
Dogs are smarter than your toddler, BTW.
Whether Americans want to be cyborgs and whether, for the best of reasons, they might end up going that way anyway.
And the scientific world’s Ann Coulter controversy. It’s about whether women as getting more beautiful, and it looks about as inane as the political world’s Ann Coulter controversies.
And other things too complicated for a simple hominid like me to understand. A little thin on Neanderthals lately, though. Just something about a Neantherhal Crate and Barrel and a Paleolithic Old Navy.
