McClellan On The Hindu Kush
They were almost right about the Obama-Lincoln analogies. Turns out he’s not Lincolnescque. Just Lincoln proximate.*
Woodward at Washington Post: No Deadline Set For Decision on Troops
NYT: Plan to Boost Afghan Forces Splits Obama Advisors
Joscelyn at Weekly Standard, Deja Vu: Afghan Surge Skeptics same as Iraq Surge Skeptics
Newsweek: McChrsytal’s War. He believes he can win. It’s the rest of the world that needs convincing.
Union-Trib’s Ruben Navarette via RCP: Obama At War With His General
HotAir: McChrystal report offically backburnered.
Meanwhile, for tragi-comic relief, here’s Andrew Bacevich at the Washington Post: Let’s beat the Islamic extremists like we beat the Soviets. Never mind that nothing about this war resembles anything about that war, including the highly effective restraints of MAD, the nature of the conventional stand-off, the nature of the unconventional confrontation, vs. the insidious and indiscriminate nature of terrorist attacks, the nature of the opfor’s commitment, ideology, motivations and objectives. Bacevich advises standing off and creating star-powered martyrs.
* Forgive the joke recycing, but this is one that only gets better … no, make that worse … with each retelling.

I’ll be honest, after reading McChrystals ROE, I don’t see how any outcome other that ‘Nam II will happen. The enemy reads the news also and will jump on the civilian option of defense.
Our folks will of course have to break off because one of the combatants is dressed in civvies, or some helpful hippy is playing heroic shield (a la fonda).
