Happy Birthday PRC!

Imperialist State Bui … I mean, Empire State Building to light up red and yellow for 60 great years of Chinese communism! AFP:
The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People’s Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.
The upper sections of the building are regularly illuminated to mark special occasions, ranging from all blue to mark “Old Blue Eyes” Frank Sinatra’s death in 1998 to green for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day.
Just last week the tower turned bright red.
However, that was not to mark some other communist achievement, but the 70th anniversary of the film “The Wizard of Oz” in which Dorothy wears ruby slippers rather than the silver of the original L. Frank Baum novel.
Wizard of Oz, communist achievement, whatever, same difference!
Sixty years, PRC, and still going strong. What a wild and crazy dialectic! What a long, long march it’s been!
There were the wars against assorted foreign devils, warlords, counter-revolutionaries and capitalist imperialist running dogs. There was the liberation of peasants and their organization into collectivized farms. One Hundred Flowers bloomed! There was the big one, the Cultural Revolution. Who says hectoring dad about his clueless, antiquated, repressive and reactionary ways is just for indolent western adolescents? The Red Guards showed them how it’s done. Too bad about that evil Gang of Four, leading Mao and the other one billion or so astray. There were Great Leaps Forward, but none so great as when Politburo members remembered that they are Chinese, said to themselves, What the heck are we Marxists for, are we nuts? And turned into rapacious materialist warlords. All the benefits of free enterprise without the messy free bits. Let’s hear it for putting labor camps to good use! Controlling the means of production rocks! Kleptomaniacal post-Marxist autocracy, yeah!

Since they have the power to foreclose on us at their leisure, I expect we’ll see a lot of things like this in years to come.
