Nerds Don’t Wanna Have Fun

Sad but true. Apparently they’re all too busy playing with their slide rules. MIT sex survey finds many remain in the control group. Boston Herald

Maybe it’s the pocket protectors and the tape on their glasses.

A Massachusetts Institute of Technology survey suggests that braniacs at the nation’s premiere center of higher nerd learning have less sex than other kids their age.

“The Tech,” MIT’s student newspaper, e-mailed the survey to all undergraduates earlier this month and yesterday released the results gathered from 1,729 respondents.

Apparently, if nerdiness plays a role in MIT chastity, it’s in the student body’s good study habits.

“People are having sex on campus,” news editor Jeff Guo assured. “They think that lack of time is the biggest reason that their sex lives aren’t as good as they could be.”

MIT freshmen are on par with their non-MIT peers, The Tech reports, with 63.8 percent reporting themselves virgins. But after four years there, 27.7 percent of MIT seniors remain in the control group, so to speak - on par with people in the same age group who express strong religious convictions but significantly higher than overall national averages.

So, it turns out the myth about the sexy mathematician … hang on, there is no sexy mathematician myth, is there?

This is roughly in line with the results of my own research, which was conducted primarily by watching “The Big Bang Theory.”
