Courageous!
House votes 220-215 to entirely reorder a vast portion of our economy, plus create massive new entitlements someone will have to pay for. NYT is keen to explain that it would have passed by more, but … 39 Dems come from districts that don’t want it. Also via NYT: Obama calls the House vote “courageous.”
Not a word I’d use to describe political arm-twisting, backroom deals, etc., or even the bucking of party and president for people who know which side of their political bread has the butter on it. Looks more like “hackery.” With a little “desperation.” How about … “ramrodious!” But the beauty of the English language is how adaptable it is. Free country, if that’s his idea of courage, so be it.
Speaking of profiles in courage, Malkin’s got your lone Republican yea voter. Lousiana’s Joseph Cao. He got a commitment from Obama to pour scads of federal money into New Orleans. Hey, wait a minute … actually, it wasn’t even that good. Well, he hasn’t been up there that long.
HotAir hurtfully wonders whether this is the high-water mark.
(Side issue … maybe I missed it … has the president called Sgt. Kimberly Munley “courageous” yet or is he holding off on drawing any conclusions? His big message to America re Fort Hood was not to be hateful bigots. It’s weird. I thought the hateful bigot in this situation was the guy who was yelling “Allahu Akhbar!” and shooting everyone. How come the rest of us get the lecture? But it looks like Munley did get an indirect mention. She’s the “they” he refers to after he’s done yapping about diversity. I guess a collective “best of America” counts, seeing as he was saving “courageous” for later. AP.
Here’s Mark Steyn, while we’re at it, summing up some of the other weirdness about this thing. The same PC fears our president is prioritizing turn out to be exactly why no one wanted to deal with Hasan.
Ha! Here’s another good one. Surber: Maj. Jihadi hit the strips joints first. Don’t they always … sorry, drawing conclusions again. Looks like some of the devil water passed his lips while he was getting his lap dance, too. That’s odd. I know jihadis are compelled to endure such torments in order to deceive the unbelievers, but it’s not like Nidal was playing apostate in any other part of his life. If anything, he was a closet infidel.)

It’s getting to the point that I’m having trouble coming up with non-obscene statements about the conduct of the ‘leadership’ of this country. I’m going to the time-out corner and do some axe work till I’m calmer. Maybe a couple of chairs will do it.

I’m with MikeH. It’s hard not to explode all over this family site with how I really feel.
