NixOnian!

Ha! ABC’s Jack Tapper says that while Obama was laying it on a little thick, Nixon did it first. Only he did it right. Nixon gave Hirohito a polite nod, not the human origami act “in the form of a first year English teacher trying to impress with Karate Kid-level knowledge of Japanese customs” that the current president executed. Tapper adds that Kyodo News … you remember that outfit, they broke the big Godzilla scoop a few years back … has been showing O’s less-embarrassing nod to Mrs. Akihito rather than the full dork-drop to Mr. Akihito. 

Not sure which bow to Mrs. Akihito Tapper’s refering to, because after jackknifing before Mr. A, the vid shows O bobbing six or seven more times to both of their imperial majesties. HotAir has a slide show of foreign leaders meeting the Akihitos, mostly upright but many offering slight nods. Obama clearly sets a new international standard in self-abasement before their imperial majesties. … Dick Cheney, BTW is ramrod straight though with an almost imperceptible inclination of that Chrome Dome of Evil. Ditto Hu Jintao, who would probably be condemned to hard labor, up to his armpits in a vat of industrial solvents in a Hello Kitty accessories factory for the next 10 years, if he so much as tilted his head.

   I don’t know that the President knows that in Japan, the person of the lowest stature on the stratified order bows the lowest. Does this mean that President Obama views himself substantially lesser?

   This is hard to reconcile with the inflatable Greek columns and speech at the Siegesaeule.
