Merr-E Christmas

WSJ: Cyber Monday sales up 5 percent over last year.

E-commerce sales grew 5% on Cyber Monday—the first Monday after Thanksgiving—compared with sales on Cyber Monday last year, and the day’s sales matched the single-day record for online shopping.

As online retailers dangled deep discounts and offers, U.S. shoppers spent $887 million on Monday, Nov. 30, reported online user tracking company comScore Inc. That’s about the same amount that they spent on Dec. 9, 2008, which set an all-time record for online sales.

… Online shopping, which accounts for about 5% to 7% of U.S. retail sales, tends to increase as holiday shipping deadlines approach, so this year’s peak is likely still yet to come.
