LIED

There’s a lot of Shepard Fairey posts out there. I like the Deceiver.com one. “Shepard Fairey Is A Liar.” Simple, to the point. In fact, it’s almost like the “HOPE” of Shepard Fairey plagiarizing perjurist posts, captures the true Fairey spirit iconically.
News via NYT. But because the Shepard Fairey story is a sort of iconic American charlatan’s [...]

“Bold And Modern White House”

Decorated with an ode to indecision. NYT arts section buries the lede and needs to work on it headlines. I guess it’s “Modern” but “Bold” isn’t working. ”Life Imitates Art” would do it.
Somehow I don’t think NYT would have missed the opportunity if George Bush had hung something like, I dunno, “The Scream.”

Unclear On The Concept

“Hope” artist Shepard Fairey just got slapped with another 29 charges by Boston cops regarding his artwork’s exhibition space … other people’s property. In an e-mail to the Boston Herald, the persecuted artist writes:
“I can only assume that the gratuitous piling on of felony charges by the Boston Police related to my long-standing advocacy as [...]

Art Encounters Life

Obamadorational artist … last seen being dunned by the AP for ripping off the Obamist news agency’s Obaminspirational shot … arrested in Boston for illegal tagging. That would be plastering his artwork all over other people’s property without authority. Boston Herald:

(Hot) Reporter Investigated For Looting

No, not me this time. In case the (Hot) part and the Bond girl art didn’t make that clear. It’s CBS correspondent Lara Logan, now being investigated by federal agents for taking trashy Saddam propaganda from the wreckage of bombed-out Iraqi government buildings, at a time when U.S. soldiers were using Saddam’s mug for target practice and [...]

Awwwww …

More great holiday decorations, this time from Newton, Mass., which if you’re not familiar with it is part of the Cambridge Triangle … Cambridge, Newton, Brookline … a sort of Volvo zone where people’s common sense, free speech rights, that kind of thing, mysteriously drop off the radar screen. Derailed!

This 30-foot-tall statue of a parting couple is supposed to warm hearts and inspire, something like that, at London’s St. Pancras Eurostar rail station. Quite a pair of honkers on those two “get-a-room” candidates, but none of that’s what the critics are up in arms about. It’s the weird stuff planned for the frieze around [...]

Busted in NYC

Dutch “graffiti tourist” gets primo tour, accommodations after cops chase him up the subway tracks and bust him. Robbert Boxem, 23, charged with criminal mischief and reckless endangerment, was in town for the big Meeting of Styles. If he doesn’t get any of the four years time he’s looking at, then he gets to go [...]

Nazi Gold!

Treasure hunters are digging for it in Germany.  Fascinating tale include coordinates jotted down by one of guy’s late Luftwaffe dad. They think a bunch of Goering’s ripped off art and the Tsar’s Amber Room could be down there, too. Very exciting. Bloomberg:

Exquisite Moronocy

UPDATE: Political art critic E.J. Dionne thinks this exquisite moronocy is genius.
This is like the work of political art.  By first-year political art students, clumsy and a little obvious. A study in dolt. Still life with peckerheads. Maybe it’s more a low-budget Picasso knockoff, with the eyeballs and nose in the wrong wrong place. Anti-war Dems propose a war tax:
