Boston mayoral candidate Mike Flaherty’s drink ticket looks like the place to crawl for a later “last call” in bluest Beantown, where the Irish and Italians took over from the Yankee bluebloods a long time ago, but Puritan Blue Laws never quite gave up their deathgrip on the nightlife. Boston Herald: Bar group backs Flaherty in [...]

Moving description of gross injustice and a wholesome expression of American values in the Wall Street Journal. It’s Rush Limbaugh, about the slanderous attacks and discriminatory treatment he faced when he tried to exercise his right as an American to engage in a lawful business venture. It would be fun to watch him sue the NFL, Sharpton, Jackson and his [...]

The German soldier in Afghanistan downs 25 bottles of wine and 485 pints of beer a year.* This follows news that your average goose-stepper is too fat and lazy, sausage-addicted, and his mission to train Afghan cops is a “miserable failure.” Daily Mail:

Organic Chilean vintner’s offering suffers from political correctness in chi-chi SF eco-plonk house, where the lefties have stopped slurping Palin Syrah. Sounds kind of dumb. Think of all the Palin yuks they could have.
“It’s an inexperienced little wine … nice legs, though!”
“Has a bouquet like a field-dressed moose.”
“More Palin, waiter! What’s the hold up? Drill! Drill! [...]

It’s another reason why McCain-Palin is polling higher, uh, soaring … why the electorate is besotted with … never mind, crack this cold one and knock it back yourself. BBQ at Castle Argghhh!!!
The “beer factor” is that certain something that tells the electorate that, yeah, actually, they could feel comfortable to a sit down, drink a [...]

… nigh. The irony is, if it happens, it won’t be the American cowboys or ex-Soviet thugs, or Iranian mullahs or al Qaeda or the Chi-coms, or even Dr. Evil who blows us all to smithereens. It’ll be a bunch of pointy-headed Eurowienies in lab coats on the Swiss-French border who are looking for the “God particle” and [...]

A Politico reader caught it. Apparently that true patriotism Obama was expressing by opposing the war in Iraq and his pin eschewage was wearing thin. He felt the need of some pinnage.

I always thought that sounded a little oxymoronic, but Tigerhawk holds forth on the subject, counseling people not to be moronic. I’ll hoist a frosty mug to that, but I’d just like to comment that it sounds like Tigerhawk drinks a lot more than me, yet less. On that ingrained in western history part, by [...]

I liked the beer ad about the horse and the dog, with the Rocky music. It brought me happiness, even with barely a mention of beer. This other Super Bowl ad offers hope, change. Without even mentioning reality. Somehow less convincingly, certainly less substantially than even beer. NYT has the vid. Here’s the script:

Part of this healthy diet and exercise regimen. Military.com has what you need to know about the critical beer-fitness nexus. I thought the effort involved in hoisting a hefty stein balanced out the calories, but apparently not. That explains a lot.

My father-in-law is a mountain of a man, a big gruff old New England fisherman whose people came across from Scotland to Nova Scotia God knows when, then down to New England, whaling, fishing, firefighting, moving rocks around. He’s got the biggest hands I’ve ever seen. I found him placing stones in a stone wall [...]

Well, this is serious business. The earliest evidence of beer is turning up in Kurdistan, but Kurdish noses that should be aloft with pride are instead out of joint, and rightly so. Because some U.S. and Canuck archaeologists apparently assume the technology must have come from Sumeria. Like the Kurds need some flatland, swamp-dwelling Iraqis to teach them [...]
