Brinksmanship from a Russky general who rather idiotically threatens Poland with nukes if the Poles go ahead with the U.S. missile defense program. Here’s Deputy Chief of Staff Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn:
“Poland, by deploying (the system) is exposing itself to a strike — 100 percent.”

Protestor-dodge torch relay in Paris, bridge-scaling in SF, where the torch is due tomorrow. French/Greens protest you can get behind. Oddly, the torch was doused and bused for its protection five times. In most French protests, that would have been five torched buses.

You’d better know squat. Issues encountered as China attempts to impress the world with its modernity. They have a different way of doing business there that isn’t going to sit well with a lot of western visitors.
Speaking of which, the PRC continues to unload on Tibet:

UPDATE: I spoke too soon. French doing what French do best. Retreating.
The French, (who had appeared to be) slowly emerging as responsible foreign policy players, actually have a pretty good idea: Show up for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Not our fault or the athletes’ fault the IOC hopped in bed with a(nother) wretched dictatorship. Just shun the [...]

I always liked Looney Tunes better anyway. Hit the AP link for the art. Minnie as Madame Chiang might work a little better. That bouffy thing is more EuroDisney. NYT wants to know what Walt would think. Good question. I think Walt would think $$$.

Chinese man sentenced to death for bilking $385 million from more than 10,000 investors in bogus ant-breeding scheme. Seems a little harsh. After a feat like that, I’d give the guy an endowed chair at the Glorious Songun School of Juche Idea Financial Development for the Exaltation of Kim Jong Il’s Astounding Business Acumen.
