Not as we do. SF Chron’s Debra Saunders wraps up, puts a bow on the raging hypocrisy of Dem objections to dissent. I’d just add that it’s too bad George Bush, accused of trampling on the Constitution, will never get the credit he deserves for politely tolerating dissent.

Krikorian at The Corner on the “Sotomayor” pronunciation thing notes that Obama went American on it after his initial NPR-like effort at PC ethnophonics, settling on something like “Soda-meyer.” I thought it was a good move. No Grey Poupon on your linguistic burger, dude. Krikorian, who himself endures the constant Yank mispronunciation of his own Armenian name [...]

Brits ban a right-wing yacker. I’ve never listened to five minutes of the guy, don’t have an opinion on him. I don’t get the impression he’s recruiting jihadis. Whatever, their country. It’s not like they actually have free speech over there, though they have made strides in Sharia. Unfortunately, due to our current immigration procedures, when [...]

Europe more or less deserves what it is getting. Turley [...]

Tragicomic irony as the United Nations Human Rights Commission urges laws banning free speech. You guessed it … it’s a Motoons thing, pushed by Pakistan and other Muslim nations, horrified that the publication of a cartoon in Denmark forced thousands of Muslims to burn cars, Danish flags and consular buildings and in a couple of cases, to kill each [...]

Althouse, rounds up the bizarre turn the free speech case, Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission took into book-banning arguments, with a Kindle review/1st Amendment argument. That’s different, but we’re living in different times.* Sounds a little like the United States, such as the United States is currently comprised, is grasping a little in its desire to control pre-vote thought and [...]

We broaden our minds and dispense with stereotypes when we travel, and see how others live. In this case, a short virtual-trip across our northern border reveals Canada is not just the charming nation of helpful Dudley Do-rights who say “eh” that we’ve always attempted to overwhelm with our Coca-Cola culture. It also has a quaint Orwellian underside. Steyn with the latest [...]

Campus newspaper column hurts prof’s reputation. Bess Davis’ ”Bess Sex” column in th University of Montana’s Montana Kaimin doesn’t appear to be about Law Prof Kristen Juras. She just doesn’t like the content and is afraid its relative proximity to her is damaging. It’s an interesting argument.
Does this mean, for example, that material that appears in the Boston Herald may [...]

It’s kind of hard to tell from this Portsmouth Herald article. But it sounds like your right to remove signs other people have planted without authority on your property, and to do so without interference from busybodies, and to express yourself when those things have transpired, is in jeopardy in the Live Free or Die State.

Tomorrow’s the big day. Should be interesting. Somehow I don’t think it will advance the cause of gay marriage much, though. Just annoy people. Sounds a little too much like a “Where’s the beef?” or “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” kind of cultural one-liner in the making than a successful social protest strategy. Has Jay Leno [...]
